The Heraldry and Genealogy Society of Canberra Inc. regularly orders birth, marriage and death certificates from the civil register of England and Wales using index references supplied by users.
Orders are sent by e-mail to England every Wednesday during the period that the HAGSOC Library is open. Certificates usually take between 3 to 4 weeks to be received. PDF’s usually 1 week.
The service is available to both members and non-members of the Society.

Any 'profits' from the scheme contribute to the Society's ability to buy reference material.
Details of the required Certificates from the General Register Office (previously St Catherine's House) indexes must be completed on a pro-forma located in the Library in a folder marked GRO CERTIFICATE SERVICE. Payment for the Certificates is to be made in advance. A Receipt will be issued by the Library Supervisor. This receipt should be presented to the Supervisor when the Certificates are collected.

This information is mandatory and should be entered exactly as in the Index. Do not add additional information that may be known, eg. extra given names, as the application may be rejected at the General Register Office.
Our volunteers can translate for the following. languages:
English handwriting c. 1600, Estonian, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Latin, Norwegian, Polish, Welsh and Yiddish.
There is a non-refundable fee of $10 for assessment of the material to be translated applying to both members and non-members.
